Upon arrival in Thong Nguyen commune, you’ll check in at a homestay nestled in a Red Dao ethnic village. After settling in, enjoy a refreshing rest followed by a warm, home-cooked dinner prepared by your host family.

This marks the beginning of your unforgettable 10-day journey through the captivating landscapes of Northern Vietnam.

📅 Day 2
HOANG SU PHI TREKKING
+

Today promises a full day of captivating trekking from Thong Nguyen Commune to Nam Son Commune. Your journey unfolds through breathtaking landscapes, with sweeping views of terraced rice fields and the opportunity to interact with local ethnic communities. Join them in their daily routines—gardening, tending livestock, and experiencing firsthand the rhythms of rural life.

The peace and beauty of northern Vietnam’s mountains are unlike anywhere else. The trek is moderately challenging, with a few steeper sections and stream crossings that add a sense of adventure. You’ll be walking for approximately 5 to 6 hours.

Along the way, enjoy a picnic lunch at a local home—an ideal break to recharge before continuing your trek. In the evening, settle in for dinner and an overnight stay at another welcoming homestay, deepening your immersion in the region’s authentic charm.

📅 Day 3
HOANG SU PHI - HA GIANG
+

Set off toward Vietnam’s remote northeast, where the untouched beauty of Ha Giang awaits. As you journey deeper into this wild region, the landscape transforms into a dramatic scene of towering mountains, rolling hills, and deep green valleys. The winding mountain roads offer breathtaking views at every turn—perfect for photography and quiet reflection.

Ha Giang, nestled in the far north, is a land of limestone ridges, sharp granite peaks, dizzying canyons, and sweeping vistas. It’s a dream destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.

You’ll arrive in Ha Giang by late afternoon. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and enjoy a restful evening in this strikingly beautiful corner of Vietnam.

📅 Day 4
HA GIANG - DONG VAN
+

Bid farewell to your hosts and set out for the awe-inspiring karst plateau of Dong Van—one of Asia’s most remarkable geological parks.

Today’s drive takes you along winding mountain roads that cut through towering limestone massifs, offering a continuous panorama of dramatic landscapes. This stretch is considered the most visually stunning part of your journey, with endless limestone peaks stretching to the horizon.

Several captivating stops are planned en route:

  • Lung Tam Village: Visit a traditional linen workshop run by Hmong women. Learn about the age-old techniques of hemp weaving, natural dyeing, and embroidery. Admire a variety of handmade items—from clothing to accessories—each echoing the vibrant culture of the local ethnic groups.

  • Pho Cao: Wander through a quiet hamlet of ancient clay houses with weathered tiled roofs, offering a glimpse into rural architectural heritage.

  • Sa Phin: Explore the palace of Vuong Chi Duc, a powerful Hmong leader from the late 19th to early 20th century. The residence combines Chinese and indigenous influences, reflecting the status and craftsmanship of its time.

By late afternoon, you’ll arrive in Dong Van. Check in to your hotel and enjoy a relaxing evening—perhaps take a walk to soak in the peaceful atmosphere of this mountain town.

Overnight stay in Dong Van.

📅 Day 5
DONG VAN – NHO QUE – MEO VAC - BAO LAC
+

After breakfast, your journey continues toward Ngai Lau, following the legendary Route 4C as it snakes around the awe-inspiring Ma Pi Leng Pass. Carved into a near-vertical limestone wall once believed to be impassable, this route is one of Vietnam’s most dramatic mountain roads. Take the narrow, winding trails branching off the main road to descend into the deep valleys below, where karst peaks rise like sentinels and ethnic minority villages nestle peacefully amid the rugged terrain.

Stop at Ngai Lau, a picturesque Hmong hamlet where traditional wooden homes and mountain life offer a glimpse into local culture. From here, the journey proceeds by road to Bao Lac, a quiet town resting along the Gam River.

Continue onward to Khuoi Khon, a highland village perched among rice terraces and home to the Black Lolo people—one of Vietnam’s smallest and most distinctive ethnic groups. Here, you’ll be welcomed into a traditional Lolo home for a homestay experience.

Spend the night in Khuoi Khon, immersed in the tranquility of the mountains and the warmth of local hospitality.

📅 Day 6
BAO LAC- QUANG UYEN
+

After breakfast, head toward Quang Uyen, a tranquil district nestled near the Chinese border on the way to Cao Bang. Upon arrival, set out on foot to explore the traditional craft villages of the Tay and Nung ethnic minorities. These villages are known for their distinct stilt houses, often roofed with signature yin-yang tiles, and have largely preserved their way of life away from the reach of modern development.

Begin with a visit to Phia Chang Village, renowned for its artisanal knife-making. Here, skilled blacksmiths hand-forge blades using high-quality steel and age-old techniques passed down through generations. Continue on to Phia Thap Village, where the air is filled with the soothing scent of handmade incense sticks—an age-old craft the Nung people proudly uphold.

Unlike many other mountain communities, the Tay and Nung in Quang Uyen remain deeply connected to traditional craftsmanship, making this region particularly unique.

In the evening, settle in with a Tay family in the incense-making village. Enjoy a home-cooked dinner and experience their warm hospitality with an overnight stay in a traditional stilt house.

📅 Day 7
QUANG UYEN - BAN GIOC - CAO BANG
+

Depart for the easternmost reaches of Northeast Vietnam, near the Chinese border, as the road winds through an endless sea of forested hills and lush sugarloaf peaks. Upon reaching Trung Khanh, prepare to be captivated by the breathtaking Ban Gioc Waterfall—one of the most spectacular cascades in Asia. Straddling the Vietnam–China border, this majestic fall is the fourth largest transnational waterfall in the world, following Iguaçu, Niagara, and Victoria. During certain seasons, swimming is possible in its emerald pools.

Continue to Dam Thuy to explore the awe-inspiring Nguom Ngao Cave, whose vast chambers are filled with dramatic limestone formations, including centuries-old stalactites and stalagmites sculpted by nature.

After your visit, return to Cao Bang and settle in for the night at a local hotel.

📅 Day 8
CAO BANG - HANOI
+

After breakfast, begin your return journey to Hanoi by road.
You’ll arrive in the capital by late afternoon, just in time to unwind with a soothing foot massage at a local wellness center.

The evening is yours to enjoy at leisure.
Overnight stay at the hotel.

📅 Day 9
Hanoi - Halong bay
+

Embark on a journey to Halong Bay, often hailed as Vietnam’s most breathtaking natural wonder and one of the most magical seascapes in Asia. Upon arrival, board a traditional wooden junk and receive a warm welcome from the crew.

Begin an unforgettable cruise through the bay, focusing on the lesser-traveled Bai Tu Long area in the north. Sail past striking limestone karsts and islets, each uniquely shaped—some resembling sails, animals, or incense burners—rising dramatically from the emerald waters.

Explore the enchanting Thien Canh Son Cave, where ancient stalactites and stalagmites form otherworldly rock sculptures shaped by time over thousands of years.

Continue the journey to Cap La, where you can enjoy kayaking through hidden coves and perhaps take a dip in the crystal-clear waters (weather permitting).

Later in the afternoon, unwind on the upper deck as the sun begins to set. Join a culinary demonstration onboard, where you’ll learn to make Vietnamese spring rolls or fresh summer rolls. Savor delicious seafood for both lunch and dinner.

The evening is free for your relaxation—play card games, try your hand at night fishing, or simply soak in the peaceful ambiance of the bay.
Overnight on board.

📅 Day 10
HALONG BAY – RETURN TO HANOI – DEPARTURE
+

On the final day of your 10-day exotic journey through Northeast Vietnam, rise early to witness a breathtaking moment—the first light of dawn illuminating the bay’s iconic sugarloaf peaks. Follow this serene start with a peaceful Tai Chi session on the junk’s terrace.

After breakfast, embark on a boat or kayak excursion to the quiet fishing village of Vung Vieng, where you’ll have the opportunity to meet and interact with the local community and learn about their daily life on the water.

Return to the junk for lunch on board, then begin the cruise back to the port. Disembark and transfer by road back to Hanoi.

Enjoy some free time at leisure before your transfer to the airport. At the scheduled time, our team will assist you with your airport transfer in preparation for your departure flight.

We hope to welcome you back soon for another unforgettable adventure in Vietnam!

Frequently Asked Questions

Vietnam’s diverse climate means the best time for hiking varies by region:

  • Northern Vietnam: October to December offers the ideal conditions. During this period, the weather is cool and dry, the trails are less muddy, and visibility is excellent—perfect for trekking through mountainous areas like Sapa or Ha Giang.

  • Central Vietnam: March to May is the optimal time to explore the region on foot. These spring months bring warm, sunny weather without the intense summer heat, and any rain showers are typically short-lived.

  • Southern Vietnam: While the south is warm year-round, the most comfortable months for hiking are December and January. The cooler temperatures and lower humidity during this time provide some relief from the otherwise tropical climate.

By aligning your trip with these seasonal windows, you’ll enjoy the most comfortable and rewarding hiking experience across Vietnam.

Vietnam’s North and Northwest regions are a paradise for hikers, offering dramatic mountain landscapes and challenging trails. Some of the most stunning spots include:

  • Ky Quan San (Lao Cai) – Also known as Bach Moc Luong Tu, this is Vietnam’s third-highest peak and a favorite among seasoned trekkers for its sea of clouds and panoramic views.

  • Pha Luong (Son La) – Located near the Laos border, this lesser-known peak features sheer cliffs and breathtaking scenery. The hike is short but steep, with rewarding views from the summit.

  • Lao Than (Lao Cai) – Ideal for beginners and intermediate hikers, Lao Than offers mesmerizing cloud-hunting experiences and relatively accessible trails near Y Ty.

  • Ta Xua Peak (Son La) – Famous for its “dinosaur spine” ridge and sea of clouds, Ta Xua offers an adventurous and visually stunning trek, especially in winter and early spring.

  • Lung Cung (Yen Bai) – This remote peak offers a wild and challenging route through dense forest and highland villages, perfect for hikers looking for off-the-beaten-path adventure.

Due to the rugged terrain and limited signage, it is strongly advised to hike with a local porter or experienced guide. Many of these areas are remote, and trails can be hard to follow, especially in poor weather or dense fog.

While it’s technically possible to hike Ta Xua Peak without a guide, it is strongly discouraged—especially for those unfamiliar with the area. The trail is steep, rugged, and largely unmarked, cutting through dense forest and remote terrain.

Even experienced hikers can easily lose their way, especially when fog rolls in or weather conditions change rapidly, which is common in the region.

For safety, navigation, and local insight, it’s highly recommended to hire a local guide or porter. They know the route, weather patterns, and how to handle unexpected situations. A guide will also enrich your experience by sharing stories, helping with logistics, and ensuring you’re respecting local customs and protected areas.

Yes, 10 days is enough to experience many of Vietnam’s most iconic highlights—if you focus on key regions and travel with a well-structured itinerary. In this time, you can:

  • Explore the North: Discover Hanoi’s rich history and culture, cruise through the breathtaking limestone landscapes of Halong Bay, and perhaps visit the rice terraces of Ninh Binh or Sapa.

  • Experience Central Vietnam: Stroll the lantern-lit streets of Hoi An, visit the imperial sites of Hue, and enjoy the beaches or countryside by bike.

  • Visit the South: Explore the dynamic city of Ho Chi Minh, tour the Cu Chi tunnels, and cruise the Mekong Delta to witness river life up close.

While 10 days won’t allow you to see everything, it offers a comprehensive overview of Vietnam’s diverse culture, landscapes, and cuisine—perfect for first-time visitors or travelers on a limited schedule.

A 10-day trip to Vietnam can be tailored for families by combining fun and educational activities that are enjoyable for both kids and adults.

In Hanoi, families can take a cyclo ride through the Old Quarter, watch a traditional water puppet show, and visit the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, which features outdoor exhibits of ethnic minority houses. A walk around Hoan Kiem Lake is also a relaxing and scenic option for families with children.

In Halong Bay, staying overnight on a cruise is a memorable experience for kids. Families can enjoy kayaking, swimming, and exploring caves such as Thien Canh Son or Sung Sot, all in calm and safe waters.

In Hoi An, children will love participating in lantern-making workshops and riding bicycles through the peaceful countryside. The nearby beaches, such as An Bang and Cua Dai, offer a chance to relax, swim, and play in the sand.

In Ho Chi Minh City, a visit to Ben Thanh Market can be a fun way to experience local culture and try street food. Families can also explore the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens, or take a boat trip in the Mekong Delta to see floating markets and local villages.

These activities ensure a balance of cultural discovery, nature, and hands-on experiences that are suitable for all ages.

As of now, the COVID-19 situation across most Asian countries has been well under control since 2022. Nations such as Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Indonesia no longer classify COVID-19 as a high-risk infectious disease. Travelers are not required to take COVID tests before or after entering these countries, and tourism has fully reopened to international visitors.

That said, travelers are still encouraged to be fully vaccinated to protect themselves and others. Some destinations, like Thailand, may still recommend full vaccination. In places like Laos, Cambodia, and Indonesia, certain specific activities might require proof of vaccination or travel insurance that includes medical coverage.

Overall, travel to Asia is very much back to normal. You can plan your trip without major concerns related to COVID-19. For the most up-to-date entry and health regulations, it’s best to contact our team. Our agency has successfully organized hundreds of trips across Asia, with traveler photos and feedback featured on our website in the “Testimonials from our travelers” section.

There’s no strict deadline for booking, but it’s strongly recommended to confirm your trip as early as possible. The sooner you book, the better your chances of securing the most sought-after accommodations and services, as popular providers often fill up quickly—especially during peak travel seasons.

Many travelers typically reserve their trips 4 to 6 months in advance to ensure availability and a smooth planning process. Booking early also allows for more flexibility in tailoring the itinerary to your preferences.

You can expect a range of accommodations designed for both comfort and authenticity. In larger cities such as Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, guests typically stay in cozy boutique hotels or well-rated standard hotels with full amenities.

In Halong Bay, an overnight stay on a traditional wooden junk boat offers a unique and scenic experience. For more remote areas like Sapa, Ha Giang, or the Mekong Delta, accommodations often include welcoming homestays, where you’ll enjoy basic but clean rooms and the chance to experience local life firsthand.

Each lodging option is selected for its cleanliness, hospitality, and suitability for the itinerary, ensuring a pleasant stay throughout your journey.

Traveling through Northern Vietnam offers chances to see a wide variety of wildlife. In national parks like Cuc Phuong and Ba Be, you may spot rare creatures such as Delacour’s langurs, macaques, and a rich diversity of bird species.

Halong Bay features marine wildlife—while cruising, you might see fish, crabs, seabirds, and occasionally dolphins. In the countryside and mountainous regions, it’s common to encounter water buffalo, chickens, ducks, and even wild pigs.

These wildlife sightings enrich your journey, offering a deeper connection with the region’s natural environment.

A journey through Northern Vietnam is filled with unforgettable highlights. In Hanoi, explore the vibrant Old Quarter and key cultural landmarks like the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the Temple of Literature.

Cruising through the majestic limestone formations of Halong Bay is another must, offering serene views and opportunities for kayaking or cave exploration.

In the highlands of Sapa, you’ll find terraced rice fields, cool mountain air, and the unique cultures of ethnic minority communities. For a quieter, scenic escape, Ninh Binh—often called “Halong Bay on land”—impresses with its karst landscapes, winding rivers, and historical sites like the Trang An complex.

These destinations combine natural beauty with cultural richness, making Northern Vietnam a truly rewarding travel experience.
